Introduction

The death of a family member or a loved one is always a sad and traumatic event, even more so if no provision has been made to cover the financial burden which falls on the immediate family. The purpose of these schemes is to provide easy access to funeral insurance so that a dignified funeral can be held.

Individual Products

Voluntary Group Funeral Cover

Product Features

This product was designed primarily for churches, funeral parlours and burial clubs and has the following objectives:

  • Affordable premiums
  • Easy administration
  • Complete peace of mind for participating members

Participation

  • Anyone in the age group 14 to 90 years may participate.
  • Cover is available to immediate family members, including legally adopted children.
  • Extended family members, eg parents or parents-in-law etc, can be included at an additional premium.
  • Persons who are not legally married but living together as a family, can enjoy family benefits, provided all relevant information is declared on the application form.
  • No restriction is placed on the size of a family.

Premiums

Premiums are payable monthly in advance.

Claims

Valid claims are settled within 24 hours.

Beef Policy (INKOMO)

  1. Definition
    1. At the death of a member or dependant [14 years and older], a 400kg live cattle will be delivered to the nominated venue where the funeral will take place free of charge within a radius of 80km of the farmer.
    2. In the event of the death of a child under age 14, a meat hamper will be delivered to the nominated venue where the funeral will take place free of charge within a radius of 80km of the farmer.
    3. This will only be done on condition the premiums are paid in full and the relevant waiting period has expired.
    4. Take Note – NO CASH is paid out in this regard.
  2. Who is the service provider
    1. A network of farmers will deliver the live cattle / meat hampers.
  3. Who can qualify for the policy
    1. Any member between the age of 14-65 years [single or family].
    2. This product does not apply to Extended Family Members nor does it apply to members older than 65 years.
  4. What is the monthly premium
    1. Single : 14-65 years à R25,00
    2. Family : 14-65 years à R35,00
  5. Terms and Conditions
    1. A six [6] month waiting period applies for death due to natural / unnatural causes.
    2. A twenty four [24] month waiting period applies for death due to suicide / attempted suicide.
    3. The BEEF policy will be cancelled if the premium is not paid in any month – no grace period applies.
  6. Administration
    1. A separate application form MUST be completed and signed by the member.

Income Continuation

  1. Definition
    1. This is an additional “Cash Payment” [over and above the funeral benefit] that will be paid to the nominated beneficiary on the death of the main member only.
    2. The benefit is a choice between R3000 and R6000.
  2. Who can qualify for the policy
    1. Any member between the age of 14-90 years [single or family].
    2. This benefit is NOT applicable to Extended Family members.
  3. Premiums
    1. To be negotiated.
  4. Terms and Conditions
    1. A six [6] month waiting period applies for death due to natural causes.
    2. A one [1] month waiting period applies for death due to unnatural causes.
    3. A twenty four [24] month waiting period applies for death due to suicide / attempted suicide.
    4. Other terms and conditions apply.
  5. Administration
    1. A separate application form MUST be completed and signed by the member.

KGA Assist : Gold Benefit Options

Benefits include

Repatriation of Mortal Remains

  • Repatriation of mortal remains to the nearest funeral home of choice closest to the place of burial anywhere within the borders of RSA.
  • Assistance with funeral arrangements.
  • Accommodation for a maximum of one night, if required, for a single relative accompanying the mortal remains.
  • Legal assistance regarding the funeral procedures e.g. death certificate, removal of body, etc.
  • Assistance in the arrangement of a funeral or cremation, it being recorded that any costs shall not be for the account of KGA ASSIST.
  • NB !!! In the event of the Eligible Person’s representatives making their own arrangements and incurring repatriation costs without referral to KGA ASSIST, KGA ASSIST will not be held responsible for these costs, although KGA ASSIST may still give the Eligible Person other assistance in terms of this agreement.

24 Hour Legal Assistance

  • Services include a 24-hour telephonic legal advice line, a standard legal document service; and a direct legal consultation service.
  • The free 30 (thirty) minute consultation service is available to Eligible Persons provided it takes place at a firm that is within the magisterial district within which the Eligible Person resides, but if this is not practical, then in a nearby jurisdiction. Upon an Eligible Person consenting to attend such meeting, the relevant advisor will arrange the meeting and revert back to the Eligible Person to confirm.
  • If requested to, the panel attorney will draft a one-page letter of demand or make one telephone call on an Eligible Person's behalf, both of which will be free of charge.
  • If, after the consultation, the Eligible Person wishes to mandate the attorney at the Eligible Person's own cost and expense, it will be the Eligible Person's prerogative to do so.

24 Hour Access Health Line

  • Access Health’s nurses do not diagnose callers’ ailments and illnesses.
  • Access Health will further make outbound calls to Eligible Person pertaining to: [a] Quality Assurance [b] Access Health’s risk management policies and procedures [c] All calls will be made in Access Health’s nurses’ discretion.
  • Access Health will provide clinical information, factual data and general information through its nurses using Access Health’s Health Counselling Guidelines to Eligible Person who are faced with major medical decisions. The information will include general information, health education, non-directive treatment options and questions for an Eligible Person to ask their physicians.

24 Hour Emergency Evacuation

  • KGA Assist will provide an Eligible Person (or caller on his behalf) with advice and information regarding any emergency medical condition by telephone so that emergency assistance can immediately be provided to a person suffering illness or injury until a medical team arrives at the scene. The advice and information will be regarded as such and not as an accurate or definite diagnosis of any condition any person might suffer.
  • Immediate response is undertaken to the scene of a medical emergency where appropriate advanced life saving resuscitation will be provided to an Eligible Person. Where necessary, the member will be stabilised before transportation is provided to the closest appropriate medical facility.
  • Guaranteed hospital admission (R2 000 maximum) - refundable by the Eligible Person or the Eligible Person’s medical aid.
  • KGA Assist will have the right to make decisions and take action after having considered available medical evidence as to what it deems to be in the best interest of the person calling for assistance. Based on the aforementioned KGA Assist will determine the timing and mode of transportation or repatriation.

Compulsory Group Funeral Cover

Product Features

This product offers term cover and is ideal for organizations, corporates (eg in the agricultural / manufacturing / industrial and construction sectors), unions, clubs etc.

This scheme was designed with the following objectives:

  • Affordable premiums
  • Tax relief if the premium paid by the employer is regarded as a benefit
  • Readily available cash for the immediate family / employee without having to approach the employer for a loan
  • Complete peace of mind for participating members

Participation

  • All permanent staff members may participate (age group 14 to 66 or to 71 years, depending on retirement age)
  • Cover is available to employees and their immediate family members, including legally adopted children.
  • Extended family members, eg parents or parents-in-law etc, can be included at an additional premium.
  • Persons who are not legally married but living together as a family, can enjoy family benefits, provided all relevant information is declared on the application form.

Premiums are payable monthly in advance.

Claims

Valid claims are settled within 24 hours.

The KGA "Talking" Funeral Plan

Introduction

  • Employees can acquire airtime at an affordable rate
  • No contract / application form needs to be completed and signed
  • Employees will receive a new sim card and number – delivered to the employer
  • The employer must however agree to deduct the monthly fee from payroll and pay over the amount to KGA on a monthly basis
  • The employee must be part of the funeral plan in order to benefit from this product offering.
  • Sim cards comply to the RICA requirements

Terms and Conditions

  • Employees must be part of the Employer’s funeral plan in order to qualify.
  • Although the funeral plan is compulsory for all employees, the talking funeral benefit is voluntary.
  • This will be stipulated and agreed to in the quotation.
  • No contract / application form needs to be completed and signed and the employee will not be required to pay a once-off activation fee.
  • The employee will receive a new sim card and number after receipt of the 1st premium.
  • Deductions are administered and processed via the employer’s payroll. The employer must agree to do the administration.
  • A member list and premiums must be supplied / paid to KGA on or before the 1st of each month for the month.
  • Airtime is loaded as follows : 15th [Cell C] and 17th [MTN].
  • When an employee leaves the employers employment the sim card must be returned failing which the number / sim card will be deactivated in the following month.
  • An employee may only take out one [1] policy in this regard – the policy only applies to the employee and not his/her spouse and /or children.

Additional Accidental Death Benefits

Introduction

  • The definition below will be applied by KGA Life in determining if a claim constitutes a valid claim under the KGA Accidental Death benefits offered to our clients.
  • KGA Life will continue to apply our stringent claims management in this regard as well and will insist on a proper SAP (South African Police) report accompanying all such claims where so appropriate, given the cause of accidental death.

Definition

  • To insure the insured against the event of bodily injury caused by violent, accidental, external and visible means which leads to the death of the insured within 6 (SIX) months of the happening of such event. The accident must be the sole cause, independent from any other cause, of the death of the insured.
  • In support of this, there must be at least the following two [2] chains of causation:
    • The death must be caused by the bodily injury,
    • The bodily injury must be caused by an accident.

Exclusions

  • The following exclusions will apply:
    • Air travel except as a passenger
    • Suicide or intentional self-injury
    • Influence of alcohol, drugs or any related narcotics
    • War
    • Deliberate exposure to exceptional danger or criminal acts
    • Professional sport
    • Nuclear risks
    • Acts of terrorism
    • Pre-existing medical conditions

Benefits and Monthly Premium

  • Accidental death benefits are offered in multiples of R10 000 up to a maximum of R20 000 @ R5,00 per member per month per R10 000.
  • The accidental death benefits apply to the main member [only] or the main member and spouse.
  • Intermediary must have the relevant license to market and sell the product.
  • These benefits are underwritten by Guard Risk.

Voluntary Group Funeral Cover for Short Term Insurance Policy Holders or Medical Aid Scheme Members

Product Features

This product was designed and is available to holders of a short term insurance policy (eg household / vehicle insurance) or to members of a recognised medical aid scheme.

Participation

  • This funeral scheme provides lifelong cover for the main member and immediate family members including legally adopted children.
  • Members who are not legally married but living together as a family, can enjoy family benefits provided all relevant information is declared on the application form. Anyone in the age group 14 to 74 ( individual life - 85 ) may participate.

Premiums

Premiums are payable monthly in advance.

Claims

Valid claims are settled within 24 hours.

Compulsory Group Funeral Cover for Short Term Insurance Policy Holders or Medical Aid Scheme Members

Product Features

This product was designed and is available to holders of a short term insurance policy (eg household / vehicle insurance) or to members of a recognised medical aid scheme.

  • This funeral scheme provides lifelong cover for the main member and immediate family members including legally adopted children.
  • Members who are not legally married but living together as a family, can enjoy family benefits provided all relevant information is declared on the application form. Anyone in the age group 14 to 74 ( individual life - 85 ) may participate.

Unique Product Features

This new and exciting product will provide you with funeral cover and R1 000 Cash Back every year on policy anniversary. Members will also have access to the following benefits:
